A new product jointly developed by IBS Paper Performance Group and Transphase Technology. It consists of a Super High Vac from IBS mated with a Z- Box Steam Profiler from Transphase.

The first official IBS/Transphase Super Steam Vac was successfully installed this summer. The initial start-up has yielded very promising results and has met its performance guarantee for 26# Kraft Liner. On this grade we achieved a 7.33% increase in solids entering the press section.

The purpose of this project was to improve the dewatering capacity of the Paper Machine through the implementation of the IBS/Transphase Super Steam Vac and auxiliary equipment. This machine was a prime candidate for a SSV rebuild due to the extreme inefficiency of the suction couch and overall low sheet solids leaving the former. We saw a substantial opportunity to reconfigure the vacuum system and drainage profile to not only increase the drainage capacity but to drastically reduce the energy required to achieve the desired drainage (reduction of operating vacuum pumps). The long term goal is to eliminate the suction couch roll ultimately eliminating the couch maintenance costs, undesirable sheet cooling and reduce energy consumption.

The IBS Paper Performance Group application engineers survey the drainage rates  and vacuum system of the machine as a first step. They then work with the mill to determine the project goals and develop a plan to tune the former to achieve  these goals.

The design of the SHV is  based on the amount of increased drainage required. The SHV can be a single, double or triple chamber design. The cover geometry is designed to complement the design of the Z-Box steam shower. For optimum steam penetration the steam diffuser zones should be positioned directly above the leading edge of each vacuum chamber. This minimizes steam spillage and maximizes the saturation period to allow the steam to penetrate the sheet. The cover vacuum factors is optimized for the grades being produced.

The IBS supply included the Super Steam Vac, the Dual Chambered Si-Ni Suction Box cover, the SST Integrated Separators, the vacuum control valves, Unloader pumps, and lube shower.
